How is your oral health tracking?

Earlier this August we celebrated Dental Health Week, so just before the month finishes we thought we would remind you of our important oral health messages:

  1. Brushing
    • Brush for 2 minutes twice a day
    • Use Fluoridated toothpaste to strengthen your enamel
    • Hold brush to gumline to remove all plaque
    • Don’t press hard
    • Replace toothbrush every 3 months
  2. Flossing
    • Use floss and/or interdental brushes at least once a day – this cleans 40% of your tooth!
    • Get your kids to floss as soon as their teeth start to ‘touch’
    • Waterpick may be an alternative for people who find flossing difficult
  3. Eating healthy
    • Watch your sugar intake – it feeds bacteria that causes tooth decay
    • Read labels on foods and drinks – sugars are often hidden and masked
    • Choose cheese, nuts and veggies for snacks
    • Drink lots of Fluoridated tap or boiled water, make sure your filter doesn’t remove fluoride
  4. Dental visits
    • Visit your dentist every 6-12 months
    • Dentist checks for problems you may not see or feel (e.g. hidden cavities, gum disease, oral cancers)
    • Regular check-ups catch problems early, meaning easier (and cheaper) treatment
